Hard Water vs. Etched Glass: Protecting Your Investment

Hard water spots on your windows don’t stay on the surface forever. On a job this week, every window on the house had hard water buildup, from light to heavy. Two had already started to etch, which means the minerals had bonded into the glass itself. The basement windows were so crusted you couldn’t see out of them, but they hadn’t etched yet, and they came out looking brand new. The Water Quality Association rates anything over 10.5 grains per gallon as “very hard” water. Most of Utah sits well above that.
