Gutter cleaners in Utah County do the job in very different ways, and the method decides whether your gutters are actually clean. Here is how to compare them, and how I do it. I am Jac, and I clean gutters by hand.
How Do You Compare Gutter Cleaners in Utah County?
| Method | What it does | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Hand scoop and bag (how I do it) | Debris is scooped out by hand into a bag and hauled away. | Slower, but nothing is missed and nothing lands on your lawn, patio or roof. |
| Blowing out debris | Debris is blown out of the gutter with air. | Fast, but it works best on dry leaves, and the debris lands on the ground for someone to clean up. |
| Flushing with water only | Water is run through to push debris along. | Does not remove packed debris, and it can push it into the downspout. |
| Gutter guards | Covers installed over the gutter. | They reduce what gets in but do not always remove the need to clean, so ask what the cleaning plan is. |
What Do I Do on a Gutter Cleaning?
- Hand scoop. I clear the debris out by hand and drop it straight into a trash bag.
- Rinse and polish. A small nozzle on my deionized water hose line gives the gutter a light, clean finish.
- Haul it away. The bag leaves with me, and nothing is thrown off the roof.
What Else Should You Ask Before You Hire?
- Do they stand on the gutters? I never do.
- Do they bring ladders tall enough for two stories? I do.
- Do they quote before they start? I do, free and in person.
What Do Utah County Homeowners Ask Me?
What should I ask a gutter cleaner in Utah County before hiring?
Ask whether they clean by hand or blow the debris out, whether they bag and haul the debris away, how they reach two-story homes, and whether they stand on the gutters. A good answer to each is how you tell a careful gutter cleaner from a quick one.
Do you bag the debris and take it away?
Yes. I scoop the debris out by hand straight into a trash bag and the bag leaves with me. Nothing is thrown off the roof.
How do you reach gutters on two-story homes?
With a 30-foot ladder and a 21-foot Little Giant extendable ladder, and I can rent a taller ladder if a home needs it. I never stand on the gutter itself.
How often should gutters be cleaned in Utah County?
It depends on the trees near the home and how much lands on the roof. Many homes do well once or twice a year, and fall after the leaves drop is a common time. If yours look fine, I will say so.
