Solar panel cleaners in Utah County use very different methods, and some of them touch your panels a lot more than they need to. Here is how to compare them, and how I do it. I am Jac, and I use a deionized water rinse and nothing else.
How Do You Compare Solar Panel Cleaners in Utah County?
| Method | What it does | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Deionized water rinse only (how I do it) | Mineral-free water rinses the panels. Nothing touches the glass. | No residue, no scratching risk from brushes, and nothing to wipe off. |
| Soft brush with soap | Panels are scrubbed with a brush and detergent. | Can work, but soap residue needs a full rinse, and brushes can scratch if grit is on the glass. |
| Pressure washing | High pressure water blasts the panels. | High pressure can damage panels and may affect a warranty, so check your manufacturer’s guidance first. |
| Regular tap water | Normal hose water rinses the panels. | Minerals dry on the glass and leave spots and a film. |
Why Is Deionized Water the Method I Use?
Dirty panels lose production, but the cleaning should not add risk. A deionized rinse removes the dust, pollen, and light buildup without pressure and without a tool touching the glass, and because the minerals are already gone the panels dry clean. It is the only thing I use on solar, every time.
How Do I Stay Safe on Your Roof?
I wear slip resistant roofing boots and stand braced on a roofer’s block about 32 inches long, hooked over the ridge and lying flush against the shingles. I never stand on the panels or put weight on them.
What Do Utah County Homeowners Ask Me?
What should I ask a solar panel cleaner in Utah County before hiring?
Ask what touches the panels, whether they use pressure or brushes, what water they use, and whether they walk on the panels. Check your panel manufacturer’s cleaning guidance too, because the wrong method can scratch the glass or affect a warranty.
Do you use a squeegee or brush on solar panels?
No. I never use a squeegee, scrubber, brush, or pole attachment on solar panels. My only method is a deionized water rinse.
Why deionized water for solar panels?
Deionized water has the minerals removed, so it dries on the panels without leaving residue or spots, and nothing has to touch the glass.
