The Wreath 40 Feet Up: A Custom Christmas Light Story from Utah County

Christmas light installer hanging a large lit wreath forty feet up on a Utah County home

Not every Christmas light job is a straight run of C9 bulbs along a roofline. Sometimes it’s a puzzle.

One of my favorite installs started with a simple request: a patron wanted their wreath lit for the holidays. The mounting anchor was already in place on their garage, forty feet up. And this wasn’t a small wreath. It measured about seven feet across.

Getting a wreath that size secured safely at that height took the right ladder setup and a steady hand, but that turned out to be the easier half of the job.

The wreath itself was older, and its original light strand had a plug that didn’t match anything standard. I went to my lighting supplier and we spent a good amount of time working through different plug adapters before finding one that actually fit. I ended up building a custom line so the wreath’s original lights could plug safely into a modern outlet.

The result: a family’s cherished wreath, seven feet across, glowing forty feet above the driveway, lit for the season exactly the way they hoped.

What This Means If You’re Considering Professional Christmas Light Installation in Utah County

Most people think about lights for the roofline or the trees out front. But custom requests like this come up more than you’d expect: oversized pieces, high anchor points, older fixtures with non-standard wiring. Working safely forty feet up takes the right ladder and technique, and mismatched or improvised electrical connections on outdoor lighting aren’t something to guess at. That’s the kind of problem a professional install is built to solve.
